KECAK ( Monkey Dance )
Nightly at 18.00 pm
This dance, ls one of the most famous Balinese dance must be considered some what modern. Created in the 20th century, lt shows its unique contemporary quality by interweaving the classic story of the Ramayana with the chanting and movements of an enormous circle of men, commenting, as it were, on tha progress of the story, not unlike the concept of the Greek Chorus in western drama. A very powerfull piece of theatre.
LEGONG DANCE
Monday, Saturday at 18.00 pm
The Legong is in fact like a full ballet in which are included many divertissement such as the Pendet (welcome dance), the Oleg Tamullilingan (courtship of the Bumblebees), the Tari Tenun (dance of the weaving girls) etc. what binds these together is the unique Balinese style of body placement, the strong musical accent accompanied by swift and dramatic changes of direction, and the unique use of eyes and hands. To understand something of Balinese dancing, one must see the Legong.
